Ghosts have always been an integral part of the human imagination. However, the existence of this unnatural entity has always been a matter of debate and discussion. Through the play Mayamruga, the city based theatre group Vatikutira Troupe questions this and more on 9th March, Wednesday. Penned by the famous Kannada author Poornachandra Tejaswi, this play explores the world beyond our vision and explains the reason for its existence in human minds.

Works of Tejaswi have always excited Prithvi Aradhya (the director of this play) since his adolescence says, "It deals with a psychological concept based on how the human mind works on illusions, things that probably don't exist at all in reality. The play shows that the ghost is in our brain."

"Mayamruga" is based on the experiences of Tejaswi and his friend, who set out for a graveyard in search of ghosts. On the way they encounter a dog, which they mistake as a ghost. Through many such funny experiences and encounters, the play explores the human psyche and imagination at various moments.

"this play has no intention of imparting any message to the audience, Our intention is to bring alive Tejaswi's experiences on stage before the audience. We have taken special take care on lights and sounds to lend a haunted atmosphere on stage." says the director Aradhya.

Sujay Shastry, Pradeep B. V., Vinay Shastry, Praveen B. V., Sateesh, Vinay, Hariprasad, Pavan are on the casting list. Music by Rajaguru Hosakote and Kiran Vipra, lighting Mustafa and directed by Prithvi Aradhya.

Humorous and conversational, the script brings out moments and figments of human imagination, which are silly and make you, want to smile. A teaser for your brain, Mayamruga is ready this week to reveal the truth behind this ghoul-like phenomenon called ghost.

Sevanti Prasanga - Play

Sevanthi Prasanga - Kannada Play
Group - Ranga Vartula
Date - 03 and 04 Sep 2011
Time - 7:30 PM
Duration 90 min
Dir - Krishnamurthy kavathar
Ph - 9986828680

"Sevanti Prasanga" is a play directed by Krishna Murthy Kavathar based on Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Sevanti Prasanga plays on the complex business of human relationships in a social world. Phonetics Professor Bhargava Shastry tutors the very cockney Sevanti, not only in the refinement of speech, but also in the refinement of her manner. When the end result produces a very
ladylike Miss Sevanti, the lessons learned become much more far reaching.

For a number of months, Bhargav Shastry trains Sevanti to speak properly. Many trials for Sevanti follow. Finally Bhargav Shastry succeeds in making sevanti win the title Miss Sevanti.
Behaviors of both sevanti and Bhargav Shastry after this victory forces us to ask the following: Is the male artist the absolute and perfect being who has the power to create woman in the image of his desires? Is the woman necessarily the inferior subject who sees her lover as her sky? Does beauty reflect virtue? Does the artist love his creation, or merely the art that brought that creation into being?
