Manjunath Hegde speaks on 13

Be Scared of 13

So who brought this theory of 13 being unlucky? Where did this fear or the feeling of having fear associate itself with No. 13?

· The ancient Hebrews thought 13 meant death as thirteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the letter M, which is the first letter in the word "mavet," meaning death.
· One of the theories is associated with The last supper which had 13 people attending it. Soon after Jesus Christ was crucified which led to a belief that 13 people dining together leads to death.
· Another one has it that The god of evil Loki who raised havoc after he went in as an uninvited guest to the party to which only 12 gods were invited. He was the 13th god and guest.
· Another prevalent belief is if you have 13 letters in your name you have devils luck. So count the letters in your name right away
· The primitive man always used 10 fingers of the hand and 2 toes for counting and what was beyond it was a myth and we all know after 12 it is….

Who can deny the unlucky charm, 13 brings?
Ask those Prime ministers who have ruled our country for 13 months and even 13 exact days. If 13 gets you the fear of 13, then your phobia is called “TRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA” (The fear of 13)

Below points can be printed on the feedback form or put up in the tea stall outside the audi after the show

Friday 13th in months of 2012
January, April, July and we will surely entertain you with 13 these days.

Did you realize that the play has 13 charecters in it? ( if we can somehow make it 13 characters)
All the numbers used in the play are 13. Rs 13 per bucket of water, Rs 130 per head for stay.

If you are not sure we welcome you the second time to #13 Margosa Mahal.

Legend has it:
· If 13 people sit down to dinner together, one will die within the year.
· The Turks so disliked the number 13 that it was practically expunged from their vocabulary (Brewer, 1894). Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue.
· If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck

Possible reasons for associating 13 with unlucky or superstitions

Primitive man had only his 10 fingers and two feet to represent units, this explanation goes, so he could count no higher than 12. What lay beyond that — 13 — was an impenetrable mystery to our prehistoric forebears, hence an object of superstition

Twelve gods were invited to a banquet at Valhalla. Loki, the Evil One, god of mischief, had been left off the guest list but crashed the party, bringing the total number of attendees to 13. True to character, Loki raised hell by inciting Hod, the blind god of winter, to attack Balder the Good, who was a favorite of the gods. Hod took a spear of mistletoe offered by Loki and obediently hurled it at Balder, killing him instantly. All Valhalla grieved. And although one might take the moral of this story to be "Beware of uninvited guests bearing mistletoe," the Norse themselves apparently concluded that 13 people at a dinner party is just plain bad luck.
the Bible tells us there were exactly 13 present at the Last Supper. One of the dinner guests — er, disciples — betrayed Jesus Christ, setting the stage for the Crucifixion.

Nannavala Kagada - Kannada Play

Group : WeMove Theatre
Time : 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Date : Oct 2nd 2011
Under the Guidance of Abhishek Iyengar and Sriharsha Grama, Directed by hanuram  sanjeev and Presented by Rangaraj Bhatracharya, Music by Abhishek Narain

Cast:- Anup Shenoy, Divyashree, Keerthi, Ranjan Siddapa, SriHarsha Grama, Srikanth Bhatracharya and Radhika Narayan

After successfully staging plays like "T.P.K Marali baa" and "Malgudi Daze" and "NAMMA METRO" across Bangalore, Chennai, pune and receiving good critical and popular reviews from media houses and people, WeMove theatre now brings back on its old play called "Nannavala Kagada" written by S. Gundurao in a whole new flavor on stage.

Nannavala Kagada play can be coined as "Old wine in a new jar" a humorous play, WeMove theatre intends to spread the awareness of "Letter writing" among the younger generation through this play. The play is set to enthrall the audience with a new look designed to suit the present generation, it is long believed among the audience that theatre is just for intense and certain set of audience; WeMove's new Nannavala Kagada is believed to break this jinx and make theatre and plays approachable and attractive to a wider set of people.

Nannavala kagada is a humorous play; the main protagonist of the play is supposed to be a Kannada poet who is admired to write poetic verses for his house helper's upcoming Bayalu Nataka (Musical drama). On the other hand, the helper dreams of giving the best performance in the upcoming village fair with the help of his master's poetic talents; least he knows about his own ability to act. The play then takes a different route when the post man of the village encounters the helper when he is busy practicing for his musical drama. At the same time his wife, a typical middle class woman who is an illiterate condemns her husband's ability to be a poet. Upset by his wife's poor support, the hero of the play teases his wife as an illiterate. This is where the wife challenges her husband and pledges to read and write within a month?s time. What happens next in the letter is the core of the play. The play is integrated using 'patches' technique of theatre and is presented overall by a wonderful original theme music. The music is definitely set to surprise the audience of kannada theatre.

Nara-Simha Yuddham

 Date : Sep30, Oct 1st 2011
Kannada, duration 90 min
Dir - Sunil Raghavendra

"Nara-Simha Yuddham - ondu premada kathe" is Mindry.in's second feature presentation. Although it is ostensibly a take on prevalent political scenarios, it also ensconces within itself a gentle love story. The lead character, the Prime Minister, is an unbelievably farcical character. Being a former dramatic actor he runs his cabinet much as a medieval monarch, with musicians and jesters in his office. The man who brought him to his seat of power from the stage is the Home Minister. A Machiavellian character who is, to his great alarm, slowly losing control over his own puppet, the Prime Minister.
The central event of the play occurs when the Prime Minister, in an emotional moment, proposes a vote of no-confidence against his own government. The man who faces the Prime Minister in the subsequent elections is ace former first class cricketer Simha. A man who believes everyone is trivial before God and decides to plunge into politics, unable to swallow the plight of the nation any more. In the midst of this pitched political battle, the Home Minister embarks on a love affair with media personality Megha. Does the Prime Minister survive the elections? Does Simha emerge triumphant instead? Does the Home Minister get the girl in the end? While answering these questions, the play also looks at political rallies, campaign speeches, generously made empty promises, the media, the manipulation of controversies by politicians to their benefit and other issues.

Bandavalvilladha Badaayi

Group : Rangatantra
Duration : 90min
Dir : Mahadevprasad

Ranga Tantra, a group of professionals passionate about theater will organize their first Haasya Naatakotsava on Sep 24, and Sep 25, featuring two comedy plays. Bandvaal Villada Badayi depicts the story of a lawyer who is "Practice Challenged". His interaction with his clients and how he gets fooled finally because of his "badaayi" is very well depicted in the play which has the classical Kailasam humour in it. Lock out alla Knock Out: a modern day social play depicts the situation of a husband whose factory is locked out and how his father comes to the son's rescue. Narasimha Murthy's comedy makes the situation lighter and enjoyable.

Bandvaal villada badayi loosely translates to bluffing with no bounds. The central character of this play is Ahoblu Rao, a practicing lawyer who is practice challenged. While his limited courtroom success partly explains his living condition, his is a story sourced by a no-nonsense wife, getting nowhere son, assistants who expect to be paid for their services and clients who don't expect to pay. So don't be harsh on him if he occasionally engages in shameless self-promotion.

Lock Out Alla Knock Out

This play depicts the house hold scene where the husband's factory is locked out and how he is nagged by his wife. In an effort to come out of the problem he contacts his father for help, who plays a simple trick to put the house hold back on track. Humor comes out in every aspect of the play and is a complete entertainer. A popular comedy Kannada drama Lock Out Alla Knock Out will be staged along with a few dance forms.

Peace Elephant Train

Dear Madam//Sir,

Warm Greetings.

Bornfree Art School is a special school for working, street and bonded labour children. It aims to bring children of the streets back to the main stream of education and society through learning dance, music, theater, sculpting, painting, and film-making. The Bornfree is a social movement endeavoring to produce a culture of liberation for the217 million toiling children of the world half of them in India
Bornfree has been performing theatrical pieces about the issue of working children, peace, gender discrimination, environmental issues among others, through art and artistic expressions,
This year, we present Heiwa Zou Resha ~Peace Elephant Train; a puppet-dance- Circus theater production .
It is all about animal-man conflict, children in war and peace, the defense and the protection of our wild life and children’s rights. Zou Resha is especially dedicated to save our Tigers and our elephants.
based on the real story in which participated Pandit Jahawarlal Nehru, as he gifted the Baby Elephant Indira to Japan. The philosophical binding of India and Japan is through the value of non-violence practiced by Mahatma Gandhiji and the Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution which prohibits Japan from having an army.

Heiwa Zou Resha Story
Set in the beginning of the Second World War, it is about the plight of the zoo animals that have no way of protesting against an unnecessary war. When bombs are falling on Japan and there is no food for people. The Curator is pleading for food for the animals in Nagoya Zoo. Instead of getting supplies, he is asked to shoot down the animals. He is questioned ‘Who is more important, human beings or animals? Indeed this is such a diabolical question. The lion, bears and cheetah are shot dead, two elephants die of starvation; and the curator is struggling to save the last two elephants. In 1945, two atomic bombs were thrown on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Japan was completely destroyed. During the democratization process, thousands of children from Tokyo and all over Japan are asking for the elephants to be brought to their cities; which is impossible. The railway authorities respond by introducing a special train, from Tokyo to Nagoya called the Elephant train.
From India with love:Jawaharlal Nehru the then prime minister of India heard about this story and made a magnanimous gift to the children of Japan. He gave a baby Elephant, Indira as a present to the children of Japan Children of Asia will walk with India to Japan with the Heiwa Zou Resha………
Culture of Peace
Wars and Children; Children are the first victims of war followed by women. There are 134 million working children in India. Every tenth Indian is a working child. Everything we use in our daily lives are products of child labour The narrative follows a chronology of events before, during and after the war bringing it to the contemporary world of nuclear wars and offer the Kempo Kyujo as the solution. Kempo Kyujo is the Article 9 of the Japanese constitution which prohibits the country from forming an army, getting armed with nuclear weapons and joining wars. While there are 30 000 Nuclear war weapons in 10 countries of the world Twenty five countries like Costa Rica have banned their armies. They have almost 100% literacy rate instead. We wish to spread the idea of Kempo Kyujo as well.

Peace Museum
The urgent necessity of spreading the most profound idea of Kempo Kyujo to school children youth and to society has brought forward the Peace Museum. Peace Museum or the Museum against war also called the Shanthi Path will trace the history of war though the ages. In the last 5000 years of human history there have been only 147 years of Peace the rest have been spent on killing. History of man is the history of war. and show case images, information about the II world war, Atomic bombing of Hiroshima ~Nagasaki and its effects. The American war against Vietnam, Pol Pot in Cambodia, The Pak~ Bangladesh war, The Indo~ China war, The Indo Pak Wars and its running conflicts, Communal conflicts. The US armed forces presence in Okinava, The Palestine Israel conflict. Shanthi path will highlight the peace movements with song, music film, theater and dance presentation on Peace.

Ghosts have always been an integral part of the human imagination. However, the existence of this unnatural entity has always been a matter of debate and discussion. Through the play Mayamruga, the city based theatre group Vatikutira Troupe questions this and more on 9th March, Wednesday. Penned by the famous Kannada author Poornachandra Tejaswi, this play explores the world beyond our vision and explains the reason for its existence in human minds.

Works of Tejaswi have always excited Prithvi Aradhya (the director of this play) since his adolescence says, "It deals with a psychological concept based on how the human mind works on illusions, things that probably don't exist at all in reality. The play shows that the ghost is in our brain."

"Mayamruga" is based on the experiences of Tejaswi and his friend, who set out for a graveyard in search of ghosts. On the way they encounter a dog, which they mistake as a ghost. Through many such funny experiences and encounters, the play explores the human psyche and imagination at various moments.

"this play has no intention of imparting any message to the audience, Our intention is to bring alive Tejaswi's experiences on stage before the audience. We have taken special take care on lights and sounds to lend a haunted atmosphere on stage." says the director Aradhya.

Sujay Shastry, Pradeep B. V., Vinay Shastry, Praveen B. V., Sateesh, Vinay, Hariprasad, Pavan are on the casting list. Music by Rajaguru Hosakote and Kiran Vipra, lighting Mustafa and directed by Prithvi Aradhya.

Humorous and conversational, the script brings out moments and figments of human imagination, which are silly and make you, want to smile. A teaser for your brain, Mayamruga is ready this week to reveal the truth behind this ghoul-like phenomenon called ghost.

Sevanti Prasanga - Play

Sevanthi Prasanga - Kannada Play
Group - Ranga Vartula
Date - 03 and 04 Sep 2011
Time - 7:30 PM
Duration 90 min
Dir - Krishnamurthy kavathar
Ph - 9986828680

"Sevanti Prasanga" is a play directed by Krishna Murthy Kavathar based on Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Sevanti Prasanga plays on the complex business of human relationships in a social world. Phonetics Professor Bhargava Shastry tutors the very cockney Sevanti, not only in the refinement of speech, but also in the refinement of her manner. When the end result produces a very
ladylike Miss Sevanti, the lessons learned become much more far reaching.

For a number of months, Bhargav Shastry trains Sevanti to speak properly. Many trials for Sevanti follow. Finally Bhargav Shastry succeeds in making sevanti win the title Miss Sevanti.
Behaviors of both sevanti and Bhargav Shastry after this victory forces us to ask the following: Is the male artist the absolute and perfect being who has the power to create woman in the image of his desires? Is the woman necessarily the inferior subject who sees her lover as her sky? Does beauty reflect virtue? Does the artist love his creation, or merely the art that brought that creation into being?
